The Shannon Duskie Book Club

I firmly believe that books have the power to change our lives. Not all of them speak to us, but some of them do. And when they do, you find yourself saying That's SO ME! or YES!!!! or highlighting every single word because there is so much TRUTH in what you're reading!! Or maybe it feels like your'e sitting in church and the sermon is speaking into your soul. The book KNOWS your soul and is speaking right to it! This is how it is for me anyways! The sucky thing - but also kinda good thing - is that every single book you read is NOT going to give you this sort of feeling. Why is that sucky?? Because once you find a book that changes your life, you want EVERY BOOK to change your life! You're constantly seeking the "good" ones because you're desperate for more!! Why is this also kind of a good thing? Because God knows that we can only handle so much change at a time. In order really feel it, see it, live the change, we can't be changing all the time - that would just make us all go nuts - ourselves and our closes friends and family!!

Maybe you're the kind of person who is thinking But I don't read. or I don't have time to read

or whatever. To the I don't read person...you're missing out. You don't even have to actually READ this day and age because there's cool things like Audible and Podcasts and stuff. Find something you're into, something that inspires you and simply listen. It's not like it has to be personal development. My husband is into music and listens to Your Favorite Band Sucks. For those of you who don't have time. This excuse is the suckiest. Not just in relation to reading. In relation to everything. Everyone is busy. In fact, busy, is the new normal response to "How are you?". I find it annoying because guess what - we. are. all. busy. And every single person has the same 24 hours in a day. I sense myself about to go off on a tangent... so I'll reel it in. STOP believing the bull-shit LIE that you don't have time. You have 5 minutes. Shit. You have 20 minutes, but let's start with baby steps here. So if you're the one saying I really want to read, but I just don't have time, stop lying to yourself and find 5 freakin minutes.

I'm going to be writing about the books that I've read, the books that I'm reading and how the content relates to me! Ones that have changed my life, others that have played a part in changing my life and others that I thought were simply whack. Call it The Shannon Duskie Book Club if you will. I hope it inspires you to pick up a book or throw some headphones in to listen to one!!
